Volunteer Jam 2008 at Seven Springs Ski Resort
Charlie Daniels Band at Seven Springs Ski Resort V
The Volunteer Jam at the Grey Rocks Amphitheatre was a great time. I should have posted this a week ago but I have been sick from sitting in the rain that night. The concert was very good. It rained the whole time and actually got pretty cold like in the low sixties. We had fourth row tickets so it was a great view of the performers. The Charlie Daniels Band holds a special place in the hearts of my family more about that in another post.
Shooter Jennings and the 357's Volunteer Jam 2008
First up were Shooter Jennings and the 357's. I had never heard their music before,I am now a fan. They are a talented group of musicians and Shooter does his daddy proud. I am curious though it seemed he left the stage a bit miserable, maybe he was sick.
38 Special Volunteer Jam 2008
Next up was .38 Special, Donnie Van Zant really knows how to get the crowd going. Even with all the rain Van Zant and .38 special kept the crowd excited. I honestly didn't realize how many hits .38 special was responsible for. I think they played all their big hits. They closed out with a great rendition of CCR's "Travelin Band" that rocked.
Charlie Daniels Band Volunteer Jam 2008 Seven Spri
I have to say by now I was a bit pooped. At least I thought I was. Next up at Seven Springs Ski Resorts Grey Rocks Amphitheatre The Best That Ever Was The Charlie Daniels Band.
This was what we came for and the man and the band did not disappoint. Charlie came out rockin. I'm not one to push my way up to the stage, but man I wish I would have been when he tossed that bow out to the crowd. He did most of the favorites I was happy to hear El Toreador it's a song I really like. I was pleasantly surprised that he took the time to do The Pledge of Allegiance. There were two moments that left me in awe. First if you have never heard "The Devil Went Down To Georgia" live you have never really heard it. I'm telling you it is amazing. My second moment of awe came when the musicians took turns doing their solos Charlie Daniels of course was excellent then through the guitar players more absolute greatness. Then when I heard the bass player I was taken aback it just kept getting better. Just when I thought that I could not be more impressed the drummer drummed. The drummer drummed and I was shocked by the talent in this guy of course Charlie Daniels band would have the best musicians, but I can honestly say I have never heard anything like this guy. I have seen a lot of bands and this guy (I'm sorry I do not know his name)is the best drummer I have ever heard.
All told even with the rain the Volunteer Jam at Seven Springs Ski Resort was a great time. I will definitely not miss another Volunteer Jam I just hope the next one is somewhere else.
This was my first experience at the Grey Rocks Amphitheatre at Seven Springs, it is a nice venue however there is one caveat if someone going has trouble walking the Grey Rocks may not be a wise choice. My Mom my Uncle and I went, both of them have a great deal of trouble walking due to some severe injuries and conditions. We called in advance to ensure access for those with disabilities and were told that the disabled parking was close and it would not be a problem. The parking for those with a disability placard was closer than the other parking. The walk from the car to the venue was quite a distance downhill on a wet muddy slippery slope. After questioning an employee I was assured that if they could get down to the seats there would be a golf cart to escort them back to the car after the show, that was a joke, I saw others practically begging to get a ride from the golf cart. The two of them then had to walk further down a now even muddier slippery road to the bottom where I could pick them up. I am a fan of Seven Springs and had a great time at the concert, but this whole thing was a disappointment from the deceptive phone call to the dangerous muddy access road. It was made pretty apparent that if you are disabled thats just too bad.
